My name is Lucas Tonnesen
I'm a Second year student in the Master of Microbial Biotechnology program, and I obtained my Bachelor of Science in Microbiology with a minor in Genetics from NCSU. Through my undergraduate experience, I have gained a strong passion for understanding and harnessing the molecular world to make an impactful difference in human health and developing novel therapeutic solutions. Through the MMB program, I am developing my business and soft skills to pair with my passion for science.
Career Goals
I found through my education I have a passion for applying my knowledge in microbiology and project management to optimize science. My goal for the future is to find a career that is the intersection between my passion for molecular biology and upstream manufacturing. Biologics such as viral immunotherapy and biologics are the future of personalized drug therapies. Through my coursework degree, I have taken courses in immunology, molecular virology, and protein expression that have taught me the science behind biologics discovery & development. The MMB program has developed the soft and technical skills I want to carry with me to the biopharmaceutical industry. My long-term goal after graduation is to work for a company that strives to find novel approaches to aid in uncovering biological solutions to diseases that were once considered impossible.
